ZIE (Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers)

WHAT IS ZIE?
ZIE is a private professional body made up of its members. Operations and membership are regulated by a private Act of Parliament, regulated by ECZ. It is a multi-disciplinary Institution covering all disciplines of engineering in Zimbabwe. Learned Society similar in many ways to other Professional Associations in the country and elsewhere

PURPOSE: WHY ZIE?
•To set and maintain appropriate standards of Engineering competence.
•To promote the advancement of Engineering and facilitate the transfer and dissemination of Engineering knowledge.
•To raise the character and status of the profession and promote public awareness and confidence in Engineering. To ensure that
•correct standards of professional conduct and ethics are adhered to.

ZIE CORPORATE MANDATE
•Monitors Engineering education, training and manpower needs and activities of the country.
•Acts in an advisory capacity to Government, Industry and Educational Institutions.
•Offers career guidance to Schools, Polytechnics and Universities
•Initiates and administers technical conferences, seminars, workshops, continuing professional development courses and lectures for the benefit of its members.
•Ensures that stakeholders participate in existing forums and strive to create new stakeholder forums where necessary

ECZ (Engineering Council of Zimbabwe)

Following the Engineering Council Act [Chapter27:22] becoming into operation mid March 2009, Government, through the Ministry of Public Works, appointed Councillors to oversee the functions of ECZ. Eng Dawson Mareya was the inaugural Chairman and deputised by Eng Daniel M Ncube.

Following appointment, Council embarked on the setting up of ECZ from scratch, i.e. getting the statutory instrument in place, setting the agenda of ECZ through crafting of a business model and plan, setting tasks/ToR for Committees, recruitment of the Secretariat, e.t.c

In April 2011, the CEO was appointed. Offices were established in May 2011 and recruitment of supporting staff and procurement of office equipment was accomplished by June 2011.

ZACE (Zimbabwe Association of Consulting Engineers)

The Zimbabwe Association of Consulting Engineers was formed in 1962 with the prime objective of representing the interests of Consulting Engineers in Zimbabwe. The aim of the Association is to regulate the Consulting Engineering profession in Zimbabwe. The Association’s core objective has been to set up professional standards in Engineering Consultancy. Its Members are charged with a responsibility to society to uplift the quality of human life and generate wealth through appropriate use of engineering and technology.
